'Paranormal Activity' New Face in Horror 10/26/2009
0 Comments

The little movie that could has taken over as the new face in horror for this years Halloween season. Film fans are used to seeing a Saw film rule the box-office around this time of year, but this year, the indie hit Paranormal Activity is taking everyone by storm.

The film started marketing itself by only using social media, and out of that, it's ballooned into a $60+ million domestic box-office hit. Not bad considering the budget was only $11,000 and it was shot on a DV camera. Find out more facts about Paranormal Activity right here.

'30 Days of Night' Sequel Shooting in Canada 10/23/2009

It's getting close to Halloween which is a fantastic time to talk horror flicks. I love this time of year; the TV stations play creepy movies, the video stores push for horror films to be rented, and the studios speak about what horror films they have in production.

30 Days of Night which starred Josh Hartnett made a good amount at the box-office so it's no surprise that a sequel is being produced. The sequel titled 30 Days of Night: Dark Days does not have any 'big name' stars attached, but now a days so long as you give the audience a scare, I really don't think it matters anymore. I was a fan of the first film so I'm excited to hear this news, but what excites me more is that the film is being shot in Vancouver. Read more about this production here.

Terry Gilliam on 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' 10/21/2009

Perhaps you've never heard of filmmaker Terry Gilliam, but I assure you you soon will.
Why you ask? Simply because his latest film 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' is soon to be released, and this film will mark the last made by the great Heath Ledger.

Terry Gilliam has faced many difficulties throughout his career with getting his films financed. And this one was supposed to be a piece of cake considering Heath Ledger was attached. After all, he's coming off probably one of the most iconic performances in movie history. But in filmmaking nothing is ever a piece of cake.

To Terry Gilliam's credit he never gave up on his vision, and in the end with the help from friends Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Ferrell, he was able to finish his project that Heath Ledger had started. The story behind the making of this film is fantastic and to read more about it just click here.

Rare Alfred Hitchcock Video Interview 10/20/2009

I found this and thought it was worth sharing. Alfred Hitchcock is one of my favorite filmmakers, and can easily be considered one of the greatest of all time. His films are masterfully made, and it would be tough to find another director who focuses more on the aesthetics of filmmaking then he.

October is a perfect month to release this rare video because many of Alfred Hitchcock's films have that eerie feeling to them, something only the month of October can bring. To view the video, which is broken up into 6 parts, just click here.

Super Dave Osborne Returns! 10/15/2009

OK I know this is not film related, but I have to tell you that growing up I was a HUGE fan of the TV show Super Dave! I probably have that show to thank for my love of parody, and outright joy of character stupidity. Super Dave made me laugh like none other, and I'm extremely happy to hear that the show will be returning on the Spike network in November.

Although Super Dave is a lot older now then he was back then, he still promises to be just as daring. Read more about the new Super Dave show right here.

100 Greatest Movie Posters of All Time 10/10/2009

I own probably close to 300 movie posters, but not nearly enough that appear on this list. Movie posters, when done well, can give you an idea of what to expect from the movie before you even see a single frame of it. Too often now-a-days the posters for many of the movies that come out simply have the stars face plastered all over them. Though this can be considered good marketing, it's just not interesting. To see how movie posters should be done just click here.

I'm a big fan of stop-motion animation. Earlier this year Coraline wowed me and I'm expecting the same from Fantastic Mr. Fox. Wes Anderson uses traditional stop-motion techniques with cutting edge technology for his latest film which is due out November 13, 2009. Check out a cool video on Fantastic Mr. Fox right here.

It's one of the most anticipated films of 2009 and rightfully so. The Lovely Bones is directed by Academy Award winning director Peter Jackson and is adapted from the Best-Selling book of the same name.

IMDb summarizes its plot as such: The Lovely Bones centers on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family - and her killer - from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.
